Referee dropped after penalty howler

Referees’ chief Keith Hackett says Rob Styles will not take charge of a match next weekend following his performance during the game between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.
You can have sympathy for officials who fail to see a offence, but when they see the incident and get it wrong it is probably time for them to have a rest. Maybe we need substitutions for referees…

The problem is that the referee is only dropped for one weekend according to Keith Hackett. I assume he will come back again the next round of matches - but will be any better?

You’re right. Its more like a player getting suspended, than being ‘dropped’. I think if the referee scores continually poorly then he eventually gets relegated to lower league games, but I don’t know when they do this - its a long time until the end of the season…
