Wrexham’s future still threatened
The Editor — Thu, October 27th 2005
The future of Wrexham FC is still in doubt despite the High Court’s decision that club owner Alex Hamilton must return the Racecourse Ground to the club.
The club, who have been in administration since December 2004, have debts of £2.5m and are currently searching for buyers. News that Alex Hamilton is to appeal against the legal decision is certain to delay any purchase of the club.
Under Football League rules Wrexham could be thrown out of the league if they are not out of administration by the end of the season. This follows the 10 point deduction they received last season for entering into administration, which ultimately forced their relegation.
The leasehold was returned to Wrexham’s administrators after the courts found that chairman Mark Guterman was in breach of his duties when he bought the Racecourse Ground and transferred ownership to Hamilton’s company, CrucialMove.
