Eriksson fails to get May 15th deadline pushed back
Despite having the backing of other top European coaches, Sven Goran-Eriksson’s attempt to delay the date that World Cup coaches have to choose their squads, has failed.
Claiming that “the date is too early” the England manager had lobbied Fifa to set the date closer to the June 9th start. Fifa, however, have refused this request saying that players from leagues whose seasons were still playing would not be given sufficient time to rest.
Countries whose players get injured after the deadline - the Champions League final is 2 days later - will be allowed to be replaced if a Fifa appointed doctor can confirm the injury.
