Disappointing Saturday fixture list
The Editor — Mon, April 10th 2006
Just three Premiership games kicked off at 3pm this Saturday (and only 2 finished).
The increase in the number of televised games is causing increasing problems with the scheduling of games at the weekend. With Sky showing matches at Saturday lunchtime and evening, and 2 games on Sunday it leaves the Saturday 3pm slot bare at the best of times.
When other games need to move anyway (Liverpool to avoid clashing with The Grand National, Middlesborough because of their Thursday UEFA Cup match and Villa-West Brom presumably moved by the police) it is a wonder that Sky cannot choose to televise one of those games.
While it is understandable why these games were moved to Sunday (and for Manu Utd-Arsenal to be the pick of the televised games) it still leaves a sense of disappointment for the neutral football fan when the pick of the Saturday afternoon games is Portsmouth - Blackburn.
