Capello gives Bent and Huddlestone starts against Japan
Capello has given Huddlestone and Bent the opportunity to stake a claim to make the World Cup squad buy naming them in the staring eleven in Sunday’s friendly against Japan.
The full team is: David James, Glen Johnson, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott, Tom Huddlestone, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent
What clues are there for South Africa 2010?
Notably James starts in goal, and it leaves 7 players to have not featured (so far) in the 2 friendlies. Of these, Dawson, Parker, Warnock and Wright-Phillips’ places would look in doubt.
Capello has probably seen enough of Joe Cole, Upson and Heskey in previous games to know what to expect, but if none were to feature as subs then the chances of them making the final 23 look less likely.
With Lennon to probably play on the left (with Walcott on the right), Joe Cole (and Adam Johnson) might have some extra concerns.
